:30 second TV commercial

Final Project Proposal

To create a 30 second TV ad that represents a line of chocolate drop made by a company called Hershlee's.

Sketches:

Target group: Lovers of chocolate chip cookies.
Analysis: This is kind of a love hate thing for me as my studies in Visual Literacy and American Cinema have made me realize how much influence the modern image is having an impact on Society at large and how poorly imagery is being utilized towards what could be a positive end product. What could possibly be better than fresh oven baked chocolate chip cookies? I chose this for the simple reason that I have experience with TV production and incorporating both Photoshop and Illustrator has been a long time desire of mine to fulfill.

Format: This could be any of a number of final outputs, from AVI file type to MiniDV HiDEF tape, but for the purpose of this assignment will be relegated to an MP4 filetype for streaming playback via the web, hopefully off this blog.

Software utilization: Photoshop, Illustrator, AVID Liquid Pro 7, possibly Title Deko.

Charlatan Entry

"Happy Meal" by CRBaldwin
An entry to the Charlatan design competition which is located here:
The design competition theme for this year is derived from a work by Paul Guaguin with the same name,"Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?" This graphic provides answer to these questions by juxtaposing iconography of the past, present, and future along with conventions currently found in every day Life but which also existed in the past and probably will continue to do so into the Future. Primal blood thirst has always been with us, a kind of food we continuously feast upon, the question now though is, with robots about humans more and more everyday as time goes on, will humans have a reserved spot for consumption in posterity or will consumption be passed onto that which we humans create?

Tesla Greatest Hits Album cover re-do

I redesigned this album cover as I felt the original cover (located here: https://teslatheband.com/estore/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=142 )
while a capable piece of work didn't truly reflect the kind of energy and fun I expect out of the band.
I explored Adobe Illustrator using pen tool outlining to recreate Mr. Sun, as well as fills and gradients and the star tool. I then grabbed my digital camera and a small blue mixing bowl and went outside anf filled it with rocks and took a picture of it and imported it into PS. Then inside photoshop I entered the text, drop shadowed much and recreated the various elements on the original "raisin bran" cereal box that this image imitates as well as used layer blending, various fonts, outline glows, the lasso tool, magic wand and some other tools to create this finished unit. The original image is the cereal box design for Kellog's Raisin Bran.

Artist's Statement

I create my works of art to tantalize the eye and to bring an enjoyment out of the experience that hopefully you might be unfamiliar with. My abstractions are fields for your eyes to plunge into and get lost in with their variety of colors and myriad shapes. I title them with my own impressionistic nomenclature that I perceive from them when they are finished. They are not named until after they are finished. Photoshop, photography, videography and various styli (whether they be felt tip, pen or pencil) applied to paper, are the favorite mediums for me to express myself in and to illustrate from reality to unreality. My illustrations are cartoon-ish in style as I was brought up enjoying the works of many cartoonists from Charles Schultz of Peanuts fame to Walt Kelly's Pogo and his satiric wit to those of G.B Trudeau as seen in Doonesbury. I strive to envelope your vision and imagination by creating a narrative world that walks about in your mind and which hopefully unleashes your mind's eye in enjoyable and edifying ways. A professional expert in the world of photoshop, video acquisition, still photography and to a lesser degree cartooning, illustration and writing, I am currently working to enhance my abilities with studies in Illustration and Digital Art and Design, so as to have a better understanding of the Visual Culture we now live in so as to better tap into your imagination and set it free for the world to see.
Subjectivity, objectivity, composition and out of the box thinking bring me to my decisions on what is to become a part of the canvas in any medium I work in. Decisions come and go both easily and with great difficulty depending on where any given piece needs weight added to its matter. Some of my most beautiful works are mistakes that I stumble upon as I create and then realize great satisfaction comes from them. For me the decision becomes finalized when the image feels right, a totally subjective conclusion but one that has served me well. The challenge often becomes one of complexity for me. As each piece is staged and I stand back and look at it I wonder if enough is going on or being conveyed. Quite often I find myself at a stopping point and simply have no idea how or where to proceed, and so I walk away and let a process of gel-ing or fermentation take place so as to allow the moment to mature, then I return and find myself with new ideas, a fresh viewpoint, refreshed and prepared on how to proceed to further the piece and finally arrive at a point of satisfaction. Thus I hope I create innovative, provoking, evocative and colorful work that returns a new page for the World to see. Please enjoy yourself taking in my works. I had great fun making them and bringing them to you.
